The Seminoles are also coming off a 10-point loss, to No. 15 Wake Forest. This week’s slate also has ACC frontrunner Clemson at Boston College on Saturday night.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — No. 14 North Carolina State hosts Florida State on Saturday night seeking more out of its offense. The Wolfpack lost last week at No. 5 Clemson in a key Atlantic Coast Conference division matchup. Offensive issues included the inability to establish an effective running game or consistently attack downfield. The Wolfpack’s offense ranks ninth in the league in scoring despite having the preseason ACC player of the year in quarterback Devin Leary. The Seminoles suffered their first loss last week to No. 15 Wake Forest. FSU is finding downfield success with quarterback Jordan Travis and emerging receiver Johnny Wilson.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 15 Wake Forest steps out of Atlantic Coast Conference play to host Army on Saturday. The Demon Deacons had a big win last week at Florida State. That allowed them to move past a double-overtime loss to No. 5 Clemson. They’re facing a Black Knights team that coach Jeff Monken said “badly” needs a win. Army has lost all three games against Bowl Subdivision opponents this year. Wake Forest won last year’s meeting in a wild 70-56 shootout. The Black Knights ran for 416 yards and finished with 595 overall in that game.
BOSTON (AP) — Boston College coach Jeff Hafley has had to wait longer than usual for a game like this. Hafley arrived in Chestnut Hill just before the pandemic, so Alumni Stadium was empty. BC has played Clemson on the road two years in a row. So Hafley is looking forward to what could be the first real marquee game of his BC tenure so far when the Eagles play No. 5 Clemson. Clemson could have an open path to the conference title game and perhaps the College Football Playoff with No. 22 Syracuse as the only ranked team left on its schedule. But the Tigers can’t afford to overlook BC.
UNDATED (AP) — A well-rested but reeling Miami team hosts North Carolina on Saturday. It’s the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the Hurricanes. North Carolina has won three straight in the series and no team has ever won four in a row during the Hurricane-Tar Heel rivalry. Miami has lost two in a row and is coming in off a bye.
UNDATED (AP) — Duke visits Georgia Tech on Saturday after snapping a 13-game ACC losing streak in last week’s 38-17 home win over Virginia. The Blue Devils have started 4-1 for the first time since 2018 and are 1-0 in the ACC for the first since 2019. Georgia Tech’s 26-21 win last week at then-No. 24 Pittsburgh win snapped a nine-game losing streak against FBS opponents. The Yellow Jackets seek consecutive wins for the first time since they beat Miami and Virginia in 2018.
UNDATED (AP) — Two teams badly in need of a victory will get the ACC slate started at noon on Saturday at Scott Stadium. Louisville is coming off a one-point loss at Boston College and Virginia was beaten handily at Duke. The Cavaliers have won both previous home games and will play five of their next six at home. The Cardinals’ 34-33 loss at B.C. came by the same score as Virginia’s victory last season in Kentucky, when they rallied from 17 points down in the fourth quarter.
UNDATED (AP) — Defending ACC champion Pittsburgh will try to bounce back after getting upset by Georgia Tech when Virginia Tech visits Saturday. The Panthers struggled for long stretches in a 26-21 loss that dropped them to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. The Hokies have lost two straight after getting blown out at North Carolina last week. Virginia Tech is 2-3 so far under first-year coach Brent Pry. The Panthers have dominated the series of late, winning each of the last two meetings.
